The thermal-magnetic circuit breaker is located next to the circuit breaker and integrates a magnetic protection to a thermal one, and in case of need it interrupts the electric current.
The thermal-magnetic circuit breaker is, therefore, a system that combines the functions of the circuit breaker with magnetic and thermal features.
The magneto-thermal differential switch in the electrical system integrates three different protections:
- the magnetic one for short circuits that can endanger an entire building with the danger of fire;
- the thermal one for overloads in the power supply (e.g., more than one appliance in operation);
- that differential proper of the earth leakage circuit breaker, which protects the subject from a leakage of current.
Type A differential circuit breaker tripping is assured for alternating sine differential currents and unidirectional pulsating differential currents applied suddenly or slowly increasing (IEC EN 61008-1).
